On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.
1) Is it a free site or does it have both free and paid features or just a trial version? The site is free! 2) Does it have ads? I did not notice any pop up ads or other ads while I using the site. 3) Does it allow sharing of content and collaboration? If so, how?
You can sign in as an educator, and create your own classroom inviting your students to join. The students can then share content with other students and the teacher. The site is very user friendly.
4) Does it have a specific section for teachers and students.
As I mentioned in number 3, work can be shared with others even outside of the classroom site. One nice thing is there is an option that student's name can be hidden. Teachers can even use the site as a fundraiser. Finished written books can be purchased online by family , friends, or other members of the site. There is a shop page.
5) Is it appropriate for use in schools?
Yes, I thought the site was easy to use, and had a whole section for educators. There were lessons available, and a step-by-step instructions on how to create a picture book by hand which could be useful in my art classes.
6) Is it appropriate for use by students? If so, what grade levels would it be appropriate for, in your estimation?
The site is very appropriate for students. This is one of the draws to the site for me. I think Story Bird could be used for any grade level. The tool can be adjusted to any level for a lesson.
Educational Uses of Site
This site is useful for creating group assignments, assign projects, review student work, and manage your classroom from one single dash board. Story Bird also connects to The Common Core.
Review of Site:
I especially like this Story Bird tool, because the students can be very creative in their writing and illustrations and then share their work with others. I was very impressed with the site and how easy it was to use and search certain items. I also liked the fact that they seemed to cater to educators, and it's free! I thought it was interesting that you could use the student's work as a fundraiser. I also thought it was beneficial that they showed you how to create a hardback book and cover.
